You Need to Rest In Order to Heal.

Rest is an important part of healing and recovery. It is necessary to live a balanced and healthy life. Rest is relaxation, a cessation of strenuous or stressful activities to the body. How an individual rests will look different as it is unique and will depend on an individualʼs preferences and needs. Any activity that encourages the mind to quiet and into the body will help you to rest. When your body can rest it will heal. We are animals and animals heal through rest. Below are some mindful relaxation practices for healing and recovery.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”-Anne Lamott

How to prioritize it.

When your body gets deep and restorative rest, healing can occur. Healing from physical, emotional, or spiritual pain will not happen if you do not make time for it. Say “No”to social engagements and obligations to allow you to make healing and rest your priority. Ask your community and support systems for help. Heal through unplugging. Turn off your phone and rest without screens. Make a digital detox a regular practice in your life. Rest is a form of self- care. When you take care of yourself you are better able to show up for others in your life.

Set The Intention to Heal

Set the intention to rest and heal. Believe that you can! Setting an intention will act as your north start and guiding light. State it in the present positive. For example “my body is healed and strong or “I am well rested and nourished.” “I get deep healing sleep every night”. Make a conscious effort to heal your mind, body and spirt.

Practice Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra comes from two Sanskrit words -yoga, meaning union or one pointed awareness, and nidra which means sleep. Yoga Nidra is a practice to bring the mind into a hypnagogic state. Here the body can receive intuition from the unconscious. Yoga Nidra allows true relaxation to occur as awareness is directed to the subtle body. Listen to a 30 min Yoga Nidra tract during the day to help your body rest and restore.

Listen to High Vibrational Music.

Listening and playing music has many healing abilities and has been used across cultures for thousands of years. Playing an instrument can lower levels of stress and ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, making it easier for the body to relax and restore. Listening to music that has healing frequencies will also help the body to relax and restore. Use your own voice to practice “toning”. Toning is expressing natural sounds and humming on the exhale of the breath. It allows you to express yourself through your voice and connects you to the body. Practicing toning can immediately bring about a state of calm and can bring about harmony throughout the body. Make a playlist for yourself to relax and unwind. Add in binaural beats and solfeggio frequencies.

Set Up A Sleep Schedule
Check in with your sleep routine and sleep habits. Do your habits and actions throughout the day promote deep and restorative sleep at night? Get curious, and tune into how you feel when you wake up in the morning. Track your energy level when you first wake up and around 3 PM. This will help you get data on your sleep, or wear smart technology like an Oura ring to track data for you.
