The Transformative Power of Practicing Integrity: A Path to Personal Growth.

Do what you say, and say what you mean if practiced will change your life. You will become aware of all the ways you are lying to yourself and others. When you keep your promises to others but more importantly to YOURSELF you will start to release the fear, excuses and lies that are keeping you stuck in the reality you do not desire. Being in integrity is saying and acting in accordance with your highest values. If you are not in integrity with your words and actions you will feel stuck, trapped or just plain miserable. Look at your physical, emotional and spiritual life. Are you in integrity with your values and beliefs in each of these areas? If not, how come?

Don Ruiz Miguel in his book The Four Agreements lists out four rules for individuals to implement into their lives for rapid transformation and freedom. The first agreement is - Be Impeccable With Your Word. This means taking responsibility for your actions, and using the power of your word for truth and love. It means you only say what you mean, and avoid speaking negatively about yourself and others.

How to get into alignment with your values and be in integrity?

  1. Notice your Inner Dialogue: Pay attention to how you talk to yourself, and the voices that are in your head. Notice your inner voice sounds like a brat who is never in the wrong or at fault, a chicken who is always afraid, or a weather reporter who comments on the situation but can’t do anything about it. Maybe you have a combination of all three. Get familiar with the voices in your head so you can start to anticipate how they will respond.

  2. Write Out Promises and Consequence: This is an incredible practice that I learned from the Handel Group. Write out a promise that you are going to keep with yourself. Then make a funny, or cheeky consequence for yourself if you do not follow through on your promise. Make your promise clear and detailed. Pick something that will help you to achieve your goals. For example : Promise-I will do 3 surf training workouts each week Consequence- I will wear my bathing suit around the house for 1 hour.

  3. Get A Coach : Having a Coach will help to hold you accountable. A good coach can mirror back to you areas you might be neglecting over overlooking. Are you playing the role of victim? Are you blaming others? A Coach can guide you to take your power back and remind you that ultimately you are in charge of your life. You are creating your reality.

  4. Tell The Truth: Challenge yourself to tell the truth in every single interaction for a day, or a week. If you are feeling really bold commit to telling no lies for a year. Tune into your body and see what is true for you. Don’t accept any dinner invitations or events you think you “have to go to”. Tell the truth. No matter how hard it feels.

“Tell the truth and it will set you free”. If you are feeling stuck in an area of your life start to tell the truth. Check in with your body. If there is a feeling of contraction or tightening; that is not truth. Truth will feel like an opening and an expansion. Start to tell the truth to yourself and to others and your life with dramatically shift bringing in freedom and spaceousnesss.
