Unlocking the Benefits of Meditating Twice a Day: A Path to Enhanced Well-Being.

Meditating twice a day has changed my life. Which is incredible because I am actually not doing anything. It has allowed me to slough of years of stress and tension. In November of 2022, I signed up for Ziva meditation. I had heard the founder Emily Fletcher speak on a podcast and was intrigued to learn more about her technique. Prior to meditating in the Ziva Style, I studied ISHTA Yoga and Meditation and had been practicing the ISHTA way for 6 years. This practice I sat once a day and each morning it was a struggle. It was a battle to get myself to sit on the meditation cushion, and a battle all during the meditation. I felt like I was doing something wrong.

After taking Ziva’s online virtual training, everything shifted. I learned I had been practicing a monastic style of meditation - and I was not living a monastic life. Ziva teaches a variation of Nishkama Karma Yoga Meditation - which is the “lazy man’s meditation”. I for all intents and purposes I am a “lazy man”. In this lineage you get a personalized mantra and repeat the mantra silently to yourself in your mind. When thoughts come, you allow them to bubble up and then release them. Stopping thoughts is not the goal of the meditation. There is no goal. You close your eyes and anchor yourself to your mantra. If something distracts you, you come back to the mantra. Overtime you increase the time you are in meditation and you sit in this practice every day twice a day.

The twice a day allows you to clear stress and trauma from your life. Everything that has accumulated and has not been released can clear in the second meditation. If you are only meditating once a day, you are only clearing the stress from the day before. You will probably not feel any significant results. During my second meditation, I can feel my body letting go of stress, and it re-energizes me for the rest of the day. It feels like I have taken a nap, but all I did is sit quietly with my eyes closed, focusing on my mantra. That is why Emily’s book is called Stress Less, Accomplish More. When you sit in meditation, everyday twice, a day your life will change. No need for a 3PM coffee or sugar hit. Instead your body gets 20 minutes of restorative rest and in the middle of the day. For me because the results have been so profound, I never miss a meditation. It is sometimes the highlight of my day. When I am stressed or overwhelmed, I know how cathartic the meditation will be. If you want more clarity, more calm, then this year meditate every day twice a day the “lazy man” way.
